Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, is preparing for one of its biggest moments of the year as about five hundred and sixty graduates get ready to receive their certificates on Saturday, 6th December 2025.
This announcement was made by the Chairperson of the Senate Ceremonies Committee, Mrs. Lynda Ugwuonah, during a live session on Dreams FM Enugu. She noted that the graduates cut across the Faculties of Management and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Environmental Studies, Law, Arts and Education, as well as the School of Postgraduate Studies.
Mrs. Ugwuonah also revealed that two distinguished Nigerians will receive honorary doctorate degrees, while two senior academics will be conferred with the prestigious title of Professor Emeritus.
The convocation activities will span an entire week, beginning with a Holy Mass on Sunday, 30th November. Monday is Competition Day; Tuesday, 2nd December, will feature the GOUNI Marathon and a news briefing. Wednesday is set aside for Creativity Day. On Thursday, the university will host the Parents’ Forum and Entrepreneurship Day. Friday will feature the Convocation Lecture, induction into the Hall of Fame, and the conferment of Professor Emeritus. The certificate awards hold on Saturday, while another Holy Mass on Sunday, 7th December, will bring the events to a close.
Speaking during the programme, Professor Mrs. Modesta Egiyi, Chairperson of the GOUNI Marathon Committee and University Bursar, highlighted that over 70 percent of GOUNI graduates secure employment after their national service, attributing this success to the practical and industry-relevant skills students acquire during their studies.
She further announced that the university’s new DNA Centre at the main campus in Ugwuomu Nike will be inaugurated in December 2025. Professor Egiyi added that the GOUNI Marathon, introduced in 2022, continues to promote good health, sportsmanship, and unity among Nigerian youths.
She assured that all safety measures are in place for this year’s marathon and emphasized that anyone who is medically unfit or found engaging in malpractice will not be allowed to participate.
Godfrey Okoye University continues to make a meaningful impact across communities in Nigeria, especially in Enugu State, and remains committed to its culture of openness, welcoming people of all backgrounds without discrimination.
