A GRADUATE OF GODFREY OKOYE UNIVERSITY, ENUGU RECEIVES FULL FIVE YEARS SCHOLARSHIP FOR A PHD PROGRAMME IN PLANT SCIENCES AT ARIZONA UNIVERSITY, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A graduate of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu Mr. Chosen Ekene Obi has been awarded full five years scholarship for a PhD programme in Plant Sciences at Arizona University, United States of America.In addition, Mr. Chosen Ekene Obi has been awarded the prestigious a fellowship of the graduate school of the university, which will entitle him to other benefits during the period of the study. The lucky postgraduate student announced this during a visit to the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke. Mr. Obi will be expected to apply artificial intelligence in studying plant and develop plants that will adapt to changing environment in the contest of the climate change. Mr. Chosen expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and other staff of Godfrey Okoye University who made the scholarship possible through quality knowledge he acquired from them.Meanwhile, all graduate assistants of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu have been offered scholarship for a Postgraduate Diploma in Education or Professional Diploma in Education in Godfrey Okoye University and its group of institutions.
Director of Academic Planning and Services, Sister Professor MarySylvia Nwachukwu announced this after a meeting of the Vice Chancellor and Director of the group of institutions, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke and the graduate assistants. Sister Professor Nwachukwu explained that the scholarship award is part of the manpower development programmes of the institutions. The Director said the scholarship is also applicable to Masters and PhD holders who want to enroll for the PDE or PGDE programme.
In a related story, the South East Chamber of Commerce and Industry is to partner Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu in the establishment of a Scholars Centre in the university.The Director General of the Chamber, Engineer Henry Nduka Awuregu announced this in Enugu, during a visit by officials of the chamber to the university. Engineer Awuregu explained that the establishment of the centre is to bridge the gap between the market place and tertiary institutions in Nigeria.In a comment, the Coordinator, South East Strategic Empowerment Project of the Chamber, Dr. Jay Ugwu said that the project would also expose the works of scholars of the university to the international community.Responding, the Vice chancellor of the university, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke gave the assurance that the university would support the establishment of the centre. Reverend Father Professor Anieke explained that the introduction of the Town and Gown, the Students works experience scheme and the entrepreneurship programme were to prepare the students to be self reliant on graduation.The officials of the South East Chamber of Commerce promised to showcase the activities and products of Godfrey Okoye University during the coming Enugu International Trade Fair.
