As a small but quite strategic unit of the university, it is driven and guided by the same philosophy, mission and vision of Godfrey Okoye University.

So far since it commenced operations, about 60 students have passed through the tutelage of Gouni Radio as Shadow Student Officers under the Student Work Aid Project of the university. The radio is at the service of the students of Godfrey Okoye University to help them identify and develop their talents and to prepare particularly the students of the department of Mass Communication for the challenges of broadcasting in a technologically-propelled age.
Since its commissioning a little over eight years ago, the station, not minding its status as a community radio, has not only lived up to but has even exceeded expectations which has made it enjoy wide acceptance and listenership across the territories within its reach.
