First Bus Stop for GO-Uni Pilot School Bus Scheme

21 April 2023 marked the day the First Bus-Stop was commissioned in Godfrey Okoye University. This laudable project was implemented by the Directorate of Strategic Planning and Funding under the leadership of Dr. Mrs. Vero Mogboh as the director.

The commissioning was graced by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke; the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Joseph I. Chidobem; Principal officers, Professors, staff, and students of the university; GOU-Nwatarali Consortium (GNC) Committee and friends of the university.

Dr. Mrs. Vero Mogboh while delivering her address stated that the GO-Uni in campus bus stop is the beginning of a larger transportation programme that bears a futuristic focus on societal welfare and growth. She further stated that the project will promote safe and reliable transport for students/pupils and possibly teachers and Civil Servants to their work destinations. Dr. Mogboh thanked the VC for his goodwill and material support during the implementation of the project. She also appreciated one Grace Ubosi, a final year student of the faculty of law, for expressing her thoughts on the erection of the bus stop which was subsequently incorporated in the vision of the directorate.

Worthy of note is the global partnership with the Blue Bird Bus Company and Citizens of Heaven Foundation incorporated in Canada and Nigeria. The foundation gave sound foundational support with a promised donation of 78 refurbished school buses and the goodwill to set up an automobile workshop and training facility for the project in GO-Uni.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked everyone who successfully implemented the project, especially the Directorate of Strategic Planning, for always pushing the development of the main campus. He further stated that an advert to get drivers for the new buses will be placed online. The selected drivers shall be trained by GO-Uni global partners from Canada.

It can be said that the GO-Uni pilot school bus scheme is a new beginning which will crystallize the essence of education and enhance the transportation system in the country and beyond.

Keep an eye out for upcoming innovations and transformations at Godfrey Okoye University.
