Practical Forensic Techniques at the 2023 Basic Forensic Workshop hosted by the DNA Centre Nigeria
The second day of the 2023 Basic Forensic Workshop provided hands-on experience and valuable insights. The day commenced with a comprehensive introduction to Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), accentuated by an enlightening visit to an authentic crime scene, offering participants a firsthand understanding of forensic procedures.
Enriching the participants’ knowledge base, the workshop delved into crime scene management, forensic photography, and profiling, presenting a holistic perspective of the diverse facets of forensic science. The hands-on sessions included meticulous analysis of responses and a live demonstration of Gel Electrophoresis experiments in conjunction with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
Participants engaged in hands-on experiments that combined the use of Gel Electrophoresis with PCR techniques and an in-depth exploration of crime scene processing. By engaging actively in the identification of pivotal clues, participants are actively contributing to the practical aspects of forensic investigation.
Adding a captivating twist to the day, the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, along with the NUC accreditation team, made a surprise visit to extend felicitations to the center and participants. Their unexpected presence adds a touch of distinction to the workshop, further highlighting its significance in the evolving landscape of forensic science.
