12 best speakers emerge as GOU concludes Inter-Faculty Debates.
Twelve students have emerged as the best speakers of the five faculties and the College of Medicine, Godfrey Okoye University Enugu inter-faculty debate competitions.
At the end of the keenly contested debate, Eze Chinonye Sonia emerged the best from the faculty of Arts, while Aguigwe Gerald, Chisom Michael Ozor and Kingsley Ochor were the Best speakers from the College of Medicine.
Chinecherem Ebenyi and Uwakwe Ezihe Hephzibah were the best from the faculty of Law, while Chinedu Ogbonna Donald and Adibo Tiffany Chiemelie were the faculty of Management and Social Sciences best speakers.
The Best Speakers from faculty of education are Igwe Chisom Agatha and Ekeh Anthony Emmanuel while Okpara Gabriel and Ogbe Somtochukwu emerged best speakers from the faculty of Natural sciences and environmental studies.
After the debate, students of the faculty of Natural sciences and environmental studies scored 344 points to beat their opponents from the faculty of education who got 327 points.
Similarly, faculty of Law defeated faculty of Management and Social Sciences with 336 points while FMSS Students went home with 326 points.
The winners in the debate between the College of Medicine and faculty of Arts were students from the Arts who scored 335 points while College of Medicine which was the host got 306 points with a consolation of securing three positions out of the four best speakers that will be members of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu debating team.
In an address at the event, the Deputy vice chancellor Administration, Professor Gozie Ogbodo who represented the Vice-Chancellor at the events described the competition as novel, argued that it would sharpen the brains and the public speaking skills of the students, stressing that it was part of the holistic training of students of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu.
In a remark, the Deputy Provost, of the university’s College of Medicine, Professor Mirriam Unachukwu noted that the competitions would help to train students that would represent the institution in external competitions.
Also speaking, the university’s Director of Communication, Reverend Father Benjamin Achi commended the competitors for their comportment and style of presentations.
Contributing, a Lecturer in the department of Mass Communication, Dr. Ambrose Igboke urged the students to always aspire for the best, stressing that debate was for learning.
Earlier, the Coordinator of Competitions, Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, Nigeria, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu announced that the best speakers during the competition would represent the university in the external competitions scheduled to take place in April this year.
She described the competitions as a festival of brains.
