GoU Donates 6,000 Square Meters of Land to Develop the DNALC Nigeria Science City!
Godfrey Okoye University (GOU), Enugu, has taken a major step towards advancing science and innovation in Africa by donating approximately 6,000 square meters of land at its Ugwuomu campus for the development of the DNA Learning Center (DNALC) Nigeria Science City!
This groundbreaking facility will be home to the Center for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation (CeDFOCI), Training and Advanced Studies (CeTRAS), Research and Innovation (CeFARAI), Visual Media and Computation (CeSAVIMS), and a Startup Innovation Hub (CeSISTEN).
In collaboration with the Enugu State Government, DNALC Nigeria, and the DNA Learning Centre New York, this project aims to become a legacy for our university and the entire African continent.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, Vice-Chancellor of GOU, officially handed over the site, emphasizing the impact of this project on future generations. “The University is building for future generations, not just for itself. The engineers and everyone involved should view this project as a service to God and humanity,” he said.
According to Mr. Michael Okoro, Deputy Director of DNALC Nigeria and Project Coordinator, the Science City, will consist of six key sections, including a DNA Centre for Forensic and Criminal Investigation and a Public Health Intervention Center. The first two phases have been completed, with the third phase scheduled to start in October 2024 and the full installation of facilities by April 2025.
Prof. George Ude, Director of the Centre, reiterated his commitment to ensuring the Science City fulfills its mandate to make groundbreaking contributions to education, science, and innovation.
We are incredibly proud of this legacy project and its potential to revolutionize research and learning in Nigeria and beyond!
