GOUNI’s 14TH INAUGURAL LECTURE!
Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, recently held its 14th Inaugural Lecture, delivered by the renowned Catholic Priest and Professor of Mass Communication, Reverend Father Professor Paul Martin Obinna Obayi, who is also the Director of Oku N’erere Adoration Ministry, Nsukka.
During his thought-provoking lecture, Reverend Father Professor Obayi called on conventional media houses to collaborate with citizen journalists by incorporating credible content and information provided by them. He emphasized that this measure would encourage citizen journalists to be more cautious and professional in capturing breaking news, especially in the absence of professional journalists.
Addressing the theme of peace and societal violence, he highlighted structural violence in policies that marginalize the poor, citing nomination fees and electoral expenses as key examples. He further called on the United Nations and global stakeholders to intensify efforts toward sustainable peace worldwide.
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, described Reverend Father Professor Obayi as the faculty philosopher. He praised his ability to harmonize spirituality with academic excellence, emphasizing the importance of hard work and thorough research in academia.
The Pro-Chancellor, Professor Christian Nwachukwu Okeke, commended the university’s leadership under the Vice-Chancellor, noting the milestone achievements of 14 inaugural lectures and 12 convocations within just 15 years of the university’s establishment.
The event, which was attended by priests, academics, students, and members of Oku N’erere Adoration Ministry, was a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering intellectual and spiritual excellence.
Congratulations to Reverend Father Professor Obayi!
