Training Smart Teachers for a Smart Future!
The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, Reverend Brother Professor Ekene Osuji, has emphasized the urgent need to train teachers to meet the standards of the Smart Green Schools being established across Enugu State.
Speaking during the faculty’s excursion to the Smart Green School in Owo, Nkanu East LGA, he highlighted the importance of interacting with instructors and assessing the facilities to help lecturers design programs that will fast-track the training of Smart Green teachers.
The Dean described the visit as a huge success, with staff and students expressing excitement over the state-of-the-art facilities. He also commended the Enugu State Government for its visionary achievement while calling for policies that will ensure the sustainability of the Smart Schools initiative.
Dr. (Mrs.) Blessing Ude, Associate Professor, Director of Gender Affairs, and Coordinator, Institute of Caregiving Education, praised the experiential learning model adopted by the state government. She stated that officials would recommend to the university senate the installation of smart boards and free internet access for lecturers to enhance teaching and learning.
Also sharing his thoughts, Monsignor Edward Kanife, a lecturer in the faculty, commended the facilities but expressed concerns about the continuity of the Smart Schools program after Governor Mbah’s administration.
Students who participated in the excursion were deeply inspired, with many stating that their visit had renewed their passion for teaching.
This initiative is a bold step toward revolutionizing education in Enugu State, and we hope to see more investment in teacher training and educational technology to sustain this progress!
