Gouni Christmas Carol for Students and Staff

It was a season of love, gratitude, and reflection as the Management of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, hosted a Christmas Carol celebration for staff and students.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, described Christmas as a time to show love, appreciate families, and “shock the enemy” by doing good. He expressed concern that some people find it difficult to give to others, noting that such behaviour goes against the true spirit of Christmas.

He advised children and students not to take the sacrifices of their parents for granted and challenged everyone to make a positive difference this Christmas. The Vice-Chancellor also cautioned against the misuse of social media as tools for gossip and lies, stressing that the world would be a better place if people stopped spreading falsehoods.

In a moment that drew warm applause, the Vice-Chancellor announced that every member of staff would go home with a bag of rice, further reinforcing the university’s culture of care, gratitude, and shared celebration.

In his goodwill message, the Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Sergius Udeh, urged staff and students to celebrate the season with moderation.

The Dean, Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, Professor Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ajah commended the Vice-Chancellor for lifting the spirits of workers and students. She also praised GOUNI graduates and students who have excelled in various fields, encouraging them to remain worthy ambassadors of the university.

The Dean, Faculty of Law, Associate Professor Friday Iloh, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for his continued support and for sustaining the accreditation of the Faculty. In a humour-filled message, the Dean, Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, Associate Professor John Odoh, encouraged everyone to celebrate wisely and spend responsibly.

For the Director, Institute of Care-giving Education, Associate Professor Mrs. Blessing Udeh, the message was simple: students should live lives they would always be proud of and continue to show love to one another.

Earlier, one of the pioneer graduates of the university, Mrs. Amanda Okolie, the first student to graduate with a First Class in Godfrey Okoye University, praised the Vice-Chancellor and the university management for their trust and support. Now a German citizen, having earned fully funded scholarships for both her Master’s and PhD degrees in Germany, she encouraged students to keep pursuing their dreams, remain focused, and believe that excellence opens global doors, while pledging to remain a proud ambassador of the institution.

The Students Council of Honours also presented goodwill messages, reaffirming their commitment to the growth of the university.

The celebration was enriched with performances including solo renditions by Rabbi, spoken word poetry, betatonics, and presentations by the College of Medicine Choir and the Godfrey Okoye University Choir. Christmas carols were beautifully rendered in different languages, including Ibibio and German, adding colour and depth to the event.

A Christmas Carol that reflected generosity, unity, and the true spirit of Godfrey Okoye University.
