Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) is buzzing with pride following a triumphant outing at the All Nigerian Youth Debate Championship. The institution’s debate team returned with a haul of medals and awards, which were formally presented to the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, at his office.
The Director of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu led the delegation to present the laurels, detailing a performance that saw GOUNI students dominate the national stage. The university secured the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Best Adjudicator spots, alongside the 8th and 10th Best Speaker rankings. In a standout individual performance, Favour Egbogu was crowned the tournament’s Best Duo Speaker.
Mrs. Chukwu reflected on the journey, noting that while the tournament presented its fair share of hurdles, the students’ resilience proved unbreakable.
The Station Manager of GOUNI Radio, Mrs. Chinyere Anieze thanked the students for representing the school with such distinction and urged them to keep the flag flying high.
Upon receiving the awards, the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke expressed his deep gratitude to the team for bringing honour and prestige to the institution. He noted that the university established the Directorate of Competitions specifically to sharpen students’ skills outside the classroom and build young men and women capable of standing out in any crowd.
The Vice Chancellor also took a moment to praise the Director of Competitions for her unwavering dedication to the students’ success and for ensuring they are exposed to activities that groom them into their best selves.

To celebrate their hard work, the Vice Chancellor announced:
Financial Recognition: A cash reward will be given to every student who participated in the tournament.
Public Honour: The champions will be formally celebrated during the upcoming Easter Sunday Mass to inspire the entire student body.
