Against the Best in West Africa: GOUNI Debaters Deliver a Record-Breaking Performance!

Godfrey Okoye University once again etched its name into the West African debating circuit with an exceptional performance at the 2025 West African Universities Debating Championship (WAUDC). The competition, which spanned two intense weekends in November, brought together some of the most formidable universities across West Africa, each vying for dominance in argumentation, logic, and persuasive speaking.

This year, the GOUNI Debating and Intellectual Development Club (GOUNIDC) delivered a historic run. Ojiako Amarachi Judith and Egbogu Favour Ogechukwu broke into the semi-finals, marking a significant advancement for the institution. But the momentum didn’t stop there.

Ojiako Amarachi Judith achieved an extraordinary feat by qualifying for the finals in the Public Speaking (PS) category, an accomplishment that shattered the university’s previous record. GOUNI’s debut at WAUDC was only last year, where the team reached the quarterfinals. Today, they stand proudly in the finals, demonstrating rapid growth and competitive excellence on the regional stage.

Adding to this triumph, Amarachi Judith Ojiako earned the distinguished title of 8th-Best Public Speaker in West African Universities, a recognition that underscores her eloquence, strategic reasoning, and mastery of high-level rhetorical craft.

The achievements of Amarachi, Favour, and the entire GOUNIDC delegation reflect the discipline, resolve, and intellectual firepower that define Godfrey Okoye University’s debating culture. This year’s WAUDC performance is not just a milestone. It is a statement of ascent.

GOUNIDC salutes its teams. The journey continues.
