Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, received special recognition as the team behind the Enugu Campus Hackathon paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, to appreciate the university’s contribution to innovation and youth development.
Leading the delegation was Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, Special Adviser to the Governor of Enugu State on Digital Economy and Innovation and Head of the Enugu MSME and Startup Agency. He was accompanied by Raymond Chuma-Onwuoku, CEO of The Garage and Programs Partner for the Enugu Campus Hackathon; Kachi Ibekwe, Project Lead for the Enugu Campus Hackathon; and Chinaza Glory Ezealokwem, Teams and Campus Liaison for the initiative.
During the visit, the team commended the Vice-Chancellor for the university’s commitment to supporting innovation and for providing an enabling environment that allowed students to actively participate in the Enugu Campus Hackathon. They also expressed appreciation to him for taking time out of his schedule to serve as a member of the jury during the competition.
In recognition of the university’s support and contribution to the success of the initiative, the team presented Godfrey Okoye University with the Institutional Excellence in Innovation Award.
Hon. Chilo-Offiah further thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his continuous support, particularly through the efforts of the Director of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, whose role was instrumental in coordinating and facilitating the university’s participation and contribution to the success of the competition.
The team also discussed opportunities for future collaboration aimed at strengthening innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-driven solutions among students.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke thanked the delegation for the visit and commended the vision behind the Enugu Campus Hackathon, describing it as a forward-looking initiative that aligns with the development goals of the state.
He noted that under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, Enugu State is deliberately positioning the state to become a hub for innovation in Nigeria. According to him, Godfrey Okoye University is proud to be part of this vision through initiatives such as the DNA Learning Centre and the soon-to-be commissioned Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation, both of which are designed to promote cutting-edge research, innovation, and practical learning.
As part of the visit, the Vice-Chancellor also took the team on a tour of GoUni Radio, widely regarded as one of the best campus radio stations in Nigeria, showcasing the university’s growing media and communication platform that continues to amplify student voices and community engagement.
The visit highlighted the growing collaboration between government, innovation hubs, and academic institutions in building a strong ecosystem for technology, entrepreneurship, and creative solutions among young people in Enugu State.
