The Catholic Diocese of Enugu, in strategic collaboration with Godfrey Okoye University, has organized a specialized capacity-building workshop for secondary school teachers across the diocese to enhance teaching standards and meet modern academic demands. Held at the Peter Mbah Law Auditorium at the Thinkers Corner campus in Enugu, the training was facilitated by the Faculty of Arts and Education.
Delivering his address, the Enugu Diocesan Catholic Education Secretary I, Rev. Fr. Henry Amuji, highlighted continuous professional development as a critical tool for updating educators’ competencies. He commended the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, for sponsoring the initiative, and expressed gratitude to the Dean of the Faculty, Rev. Bro. Prof. Ekene Osuji, alongside the resource persons for driving the program.
Rev. Fr. Amuji urged participants to apply their newly acquired skills to elevate student performance.
Key instructional modules were delivered by expert facilitators throughout the workshop.
Education Consultant Mrs. Ire Eunice presented on transitioning from teacher-centred to learner-centred teaching, emphasizing that shifting classroom dynamics toward active participation fosters critical thinking and long-term knowledge retention.
Addressing differentiated instruction, Dr. Henrietta Ogbuanu categorized students into fast, average, and struggling learners, recommending tailored approaches such as advanced tasks for fast learners, structured repetition for average learners, and targeted assistance for struggling students.
Finally, Rev. Bro. Prof. Ekene Osuji demonstrated the integration of modern Artificial Intelligence applications into lesson delivery, explaining that digital tools create interactive, experiential learning environments while optimizing instructional efficiency.
