EMERITUS PROF NDUKA OKAFOR
PROFESSOR
Emeritus Prof Nduka Okafor holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of London, England and a PhD degree from the University of Cambridge, England. He has taught and/ or researched in industrial and food microbiology in Australia, Austria, the Netherlands, Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the USA. In the USA he has been at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA, and Furman University, Greenville, SC and Clemson University, Clemson, SC. He has acted as external examiner (for undergraduate and post-graduate students) at the University of Zimbabwe, the University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the University of New South Wales, Australia and the University of Poona, India, as well as about one numerous Nigerian universities. He has supervised about fifty doctoral and masters students, many of whom have long since become professors and even retired from university teaching. He has about 120 publications which include papers in referred journals and textbooks. His textbooks are used around the world, especially Modern Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (CRC Press) and Environmental Microbiology of Aquatic and Waste Systems (Springer). Outside the field of microbiology he has published papers and textbooks on higher education, including The Developments of Universities in Nigeria (Longman, London: 1971) and One and Half Centuries of the University in Nigeria, 1868 – 2011: A Historical Account, (Progress Publishing Co, Atlanta GA, USA and Enugu, 2012).
