VC Godfrey Okoye University offers Scholarship to 2023 UTME Overall Best Candidate
The overall best student in the 2023 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB, and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UMTE) Lotanna Azuokeke, has been offered scholarship by the Vice Chancellor, of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, Rev. Fr. Christian Anieke, to study in Godfrey Okoye University College of Medicine.
Rev. Fr. Prof Anieke announced this while presenting a car to the first male student who emerged the “Vice Chancellor For One Day” of the University.
The beneficiary of the scholarship, Anambra-born Lotanna Azuokeke, set a new record in the JAMB/UTME examinations by scoring 337 marks.
Azuokeke is said to be a citizen of Ọba in Idemmili South Local Government Area and a student of Bishop Otubelu Juniorate, Trans Ekulu, Enugu.
The candidate reportedly got 64 in English; Mathematics: 99; Physics: 86 and Chemistry: 88, totalling 337.
Speaking on a car gift to winner of the Vice Chancellor for one day, Vitalis Iloanuwusi, a 400L student of the university, Reverend Father Prof Anieke said Iloanwusi got a Cumulative Grade Point of 5.O in two semesters and emerged GOU VC for one day, setting the record as the first male student to win the position.
Reverend Father Prof Anieke commended Iloanwusi for the extraordinary performance.
The Vice Chancellor said the youths needed a system that can harness their talents, stressing that they can do a lot and compete with their colleagues globally if they are given the needed support.
He said the university adopted the Vice Chancellor for one day to motivate students, pointing out that when the youths are challenged, they would do well for themselves and the society.
Reverend Father Prof Anieke noted that graduates of the University who were Vice Chancellor for one day are doing extremely well in life which he said is an indication that the programme was good.
He expressed the belief that when the beneficiaries taste success, they will strive for more in life, stressing that Vitalis will not go for something below excellence as he has taken seat as VC, addressed the senate of the university, University’s secondary school and its group of institutions.
Earlier, the donor, Mr Alphonsus Onyeachonam Nwafor, charged students to be committed to their studies and aim at achieving the objective of being in the university, pointing out that Iloanuwusi had a vision which led him in setting the record.
He explained that when he discovered that only females were winning the VC for one day in the university, he threw a challenge to the male students which saw Iloanuwusi emerging as the first male student to win the position.
Mr. Nwafor remarked that the gift might be extended to female students in future in keeping with the gender equality of the University, adding that the car gift cost him N3.9 million naira.
Responding, Mr. Iloanuwusi who was fillled with joy, said that hard work, prayers and patience, made it possible for him to achieve the feat, adding that the donor had further encouraged him with the car.
He expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and others who encouraged him to forge ahead, especially in times of difficulties.
