Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, and Taraba State University, Jalingo, have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening academic, research, and technological collaboration between the two institutions.
The agreement was signed at the Senate Chamber of Godfrey Okoye University, Thinkers Corner, Enugu, by the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, and the Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako.
The strategic framework covers extensive collaboration across several key areas, including Biotechnology and Molecular Sciences, DNA learning and Genomics Research, Agricultural and Biotechnology Engineering, Renewable Energy, Entrepreneurship, Teaching and Research Exchange, International Grant Mobilisation, and Sports Development.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke described the partnership as a significant milestone in the pursuit of academic excellence. He assured Taraba State University of GOUNI’s total commitment, pledging to freely share the university’s expertise in DNA learning and entrepreneurship while also opening doors to international academic networks like Africa-UniNet and the STEPs Programme.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako expressed appreciation for the warm reception and noted that the agreement is both timely and necessary. He emphasized that Nigerian universities must collaborate internally to tackle local challenges through locally driven research, reduce unnecessary duplication, and build stronger domestic research networks.
The ceremony concluded with the formal exchange of the signed documents, establishing a long-term strategic alliance designed to promote cutting-edge research, expand staff and student exchanges, and position both institutions for greater national and international impact.
