Godfrey Okoye University has been described as a cohesive community bound by a shared vision, mission, and collective goals rather than a mere administrative organization.
The Pioneer Prior Provincial of the Augustinian Province of Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Dr. Patrick Akinrimisi, made the statement while delivering the main address at a spiritual retreat and workshop organized for the staff of Godfrey Okoye University ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session. The program was hosted at the Omnium Sanctorum Chaplaincy, Thinkers Corner campus, Enugu.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Akinrimisi emphasized that the retreat served as an essential platform for staff members to engage in self-reflection, seek ultimate truth, and pursue personal betterment inspired by Augustinian values. He encouraged participants to ground their identity in divine love rather than defining themselves solely through professional roles, workplace challenges, or temporary setbacks.
Addressing institutional responsibilities, the facilitator urged staff members to uphold absolute personal and professional integrity, particularly across instructional delivery, academic assessments, financial management, and procurement processes. He noted that the visibility and reputation of a Catholic university must remain firmly rooted in fairness, transparency, moral justice, and constructive staff-student relationships.
He further charged employees to view their duties as a noble vocation dedicated to societal development rather than just a means of daily survival.
The program featured an interactive session focused on Augustinian examination of conscience, structured group reflections, and collaborative exercises. Proceedings for the 2026/2027 staff retreat commenced with a Holy Mass celebrated in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, alongside Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, and university staff.
