An acting chief medical director has been appointed for the Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital, Enugu.

The Vice Chancellor of the University Rev Fr Prof Christian Anieke who announced this while briefing newsmen on recent achievements of the institution said the CMD is Professor Cajetan Nwadinigwe .

Rev Fr Prof Anieke explained that the name of the hospital has been changed from Ntasi Obi Ndi no na Afufu to Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital and is being repositioned to render high class and efficient health care to the residents of Enugu state and beyond.
He explained that the university’s college of medicine is committed to change the narrative of college of medicines in Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor announced that the university has an agreement with Kepler university in Austria for the training of students of the College of Medicine, stressing that the students will take some of the courses as those in Kepler university.

Rev. Fr Prof Anieke stated that the setting up of the DNA Centre at the Ugwuomu campus of Godfrey Okoye University is to ensure adequate training of the students in stem cell analysis and other medical treatments..

Speaking on the focus of the institution, the Vice Chancellor said Godfrey Okoye University Enugu is a space for the Empowerment of young people.

Reverend Father Prof Christian Anieke said this informed the establishment of the university’s Centre for Practical Skills located at the Ugwuomu campus of the University to train students in a special way.

The Vice Chancellor said the pioneer students of the Centre will graduate on the 8th of July this year 2023, having been efficiently trained in electrical/electronics installations and repairs, plumbing and masonry.
According to the VC, participants in the programme are now on field practice, installing and repairing various facilities as well as building structures in the various campuses of the University.

He said some of the 100 possible graduates of the centre would be engaged in the activities of the companies that would operate in the institution ‘s European Business Park.

Rev Fr Prof Anieke said all the pioneer participants in the college of practical Skills are on scholarship with N30,000 monthly stipends.

He said the number of the beficiaries of the training might be increased if the university receives more support from the government or organisations.

Commenting on the progress of institution ‘s Law faculty, the VC announced that the pioneer and second batch of graduates of Godfrey Okoye University faculty of Law will be in the Law School in September this year.

Reverend Father Prof Christian Anieke said the students have been adequately trained to join their counterparts in the Law school.

Rev.Fr Prof Anieke revealed that the faculty plans to commence postgraduate programmes in Law, especially such new areas as cyber crime law, and other related courses, stressing that the faculty is the pride of the University.

The Vice Chancellor announced that the university will officially commence admissions for 2023/2024 academic session on Sunday the 4th June 2023.

He said plans to commence medical laboratory and nursing are still in progress, pointing out that these would be followed with the introduction of Pharmacy in subsequent sessions.

Rev. Fr. Anieke announced that an ultramodern canteen built by the Alumni association of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu at the Thinkers Corner campus of the University is to be inaugurated next month.

The canteen has two sections, general and executive apartments meant to serve different local and continental dishes.

He hinted that the association has awarded scholarships to students of the institution while the President of the alumni, Alphonsus Nwafor has donated a car to the first male winner of VC for one day.

The Vice Chancellor commended the alumnus of the University for being consistent in supporting the institution.

On the growing number of universities in Nigeria, Reverend Father Prof Anieke said more Tertiary institutions are still needed to cater for the educational needs of Nigerians, stressing that what is needed is ensuring the quality of the graduates and not limiting the quantity.

According to the VC, if Nigeria fails to play her role well, Africa will collapse and announced that many Cameroonians are studying in the university.

In a remark, the Director of Communications of the University and the Station Manager, Gouni Radio, Reverend Father Benjamin Achi, noted with appreciation the VC’s passion for the university.

The Director of Communications and the Station Manager, GOUNI-RADIO, observed that the Vice Chancellor always has something new for the university.
Reverend Father Achi who is also an alumnus of the University noted that Reverend Father Professor Anieke not only thinks for the future of the university and its group of institutions but also the state, the nation and humanity in general.
