Godfrey Okoye University has commenced its 2025/2026 Orientation Programme for newly admitted students, ahead of their matriculation scheduled to hold later this month, marking the formal welcome of fresh students into the university community.
The orientation programme is designed to introduce new students to campus life, academic policies, available resources, and the rules and regulations that will guide their stay in the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, made this known while addressing the students at the 2025/2026 Orientation Programme held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena, Thinkers Corner Campus, Enugu.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Sergius Udeh, the Vice-Chancellor described the university as a citadel of excellence, known for its strong culture of prayer, uninterrupted academic calendar, and consistent timely graduation of students. He noted that lecturers and administrative staff serve not only as instructors but also as mentors and academic advisors, guiding students throughout their academic journey. He congratulated the fresh students on securing admission into what he described as the best private university east of the Niger and Nigeria’s third-best private university.
In her remarks, the University Librarian, Assoc. Prof. Juliana Iwu-James, emphasized that academic excellence is closely tied to effective use of the library. She encouraged students to make regular use of the library facilities, noting the availability of books, journals, e-books, and other research materials.
The Head of Admissions, Mrs. Njideka Mbah, stressed the importance of proper documentation, urging students to keep all admission documents safe and well-organized to avoid issues that could jeopardize their studentship. She also advised students to correct any name discrepancies with the university and external bodies such as JAMB before matriculation to prevent future challenges, especially during NYSC mobilization.
Speaking on examinations and records, the Assistant Head of Exams and Records, Mr. Emmanuel Sha, explained that the unit is responsible for collating examination records, calculating CGPAs, and uploading results online. He highlighted the importance of proper and timely online course registration to ensure students’ results are visible and accurately processed.
The ICT Manager, Mr. Lucky Azike, outlined the responsibilities of the ICT unit, which include network and website management, email services, technical support, and online registration and result processing. He urged students to register their courses on time to avoid penalties.
Also addressing the students, the Director of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, encouraged them to take advantage of opportunities offered by the Directorate of Competitions. She explained that the directorate engages students in national and international competitions such as hackathons, debates, quizzes, and pageantry, helping to nurture talents, broaden exposure beyond the classroom, create opportunities, and offer financial rewards.
The three-day orientation programme at the Thinkers Corner Campus and Ugwuomu Campus continues today and is expected to conclude tomorrow, Wednesday, 11th, 2026.
