Godfrey Okoye University Hosts International Conference on Mental Health
The Enugu State government is calling for greater collaboration with stakeholders to address mental health challenges in the state!
During the International Conference on Mental Health at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Obi emphasized the government’s commitment to improving mental health services and urged Nigerians to create stress-free environments at home.
Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, highlighted the alarming rate of mental health cases in Nigeria and stressed the need to recognize psychology as an integral part of mental health treatment.
The conference also addressed the link between drug abuse and mental health, with plans for a Mental Health Plaza and calls for increased resources and legislation in the field.
Moreover, the conference saw calls for action from key figures like Prof. Bath Nnaji and Dr. Nkechi Aneke, emphasizing the need for increased resources and support for mental health practitioners and facilities.
