The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke reaffirmed the university’s unwavering commitment to remember its departed staff and students who contributed to the institution’s growth and legacy.
Speaking during a memorial mass held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena, Thinkers Corner Campus, Enugu, in honour of Emeritus Professor Nduka Okafor, Dr. Thomas Ngwu, and other departed staff and students, the Vice Chancellor described the event as a continuous narrative of unbroken relationships with the dead.
He emphasized that remembrance remains a vital part of the university’s identity, urging staff and students to emulate the virtues of humility, dedication, and service exemplified by the late Professor Okafor and Dr. Ngwu.
The HOD of Biological Sciences, Dr. Francess Olisaka, described the late Emeritus Professor as a humble and devoted teacher. In his homily, the officiating priest reminded all that death holds no fear for those with faith and encouraged Christians to live lives of humility, purity, and charity.
In their tributes, Mrs. Amaka Okorie-Okafor remembered her father as a philanthropist whose legacy would endure, while Mr. Ruben Ngwu reflected on Dr. Ngwu’s fulfilled life and lifelong dedication to service.
