The 17th Foundation Day of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, was a beautiful blend of colour, reflection, and celebration. Students, staff, alumni, and friends of the university gathered at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena to honour the vision and legacy of the university’s founders.
The event featured uplifting praise and worship, inspiring speeches, cultural displays, musical performances, award presentations, and the symbolic cutting of the Foundation Day cake.
In his heartfelt address, the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke described the university’s journey as “miraculous,” reminding all that God’s purpose guides every step. He reflected on the humble beginnings of the university and how far it has come through faith and perseverance.
The Foundation Day lecturer, Hon. (Dr.) Obi Ozor, Commissioner for Transport, Enugu State, praised GOUNI as a “formation house” shaping minds and character for greater purpose. He urged students to embrace courage and determination, noting that “there is no perfect condition to start something.”
A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of outstanding students, including those who achieved a perfect CGPA of 5.00; Ekwe Princess Chinyere, Ogadimma Samuel Ogochukwu, Ogbu Esther Kenechukwu, Okpala Amalachi Pascaline, and Ozoude Reuben Chukwuebuka, with Ekwe Princess emerging as the Vice Chancellor for One Day.
Awards were also presented to students who brought pride to the university in regional and national competitions: Egbogu Favour Ogechukwu, Aguigwo Gerald Somtochukwu, Adibo Tiffany.
As the ceremony came to a close, the air was filled with gratitude and renewed commitment to the university’s founding ideals, faith, excellence, and service to humanity.
17 years of grace, growth, and greatness, and the journey continues.
