Godfrey Okoye University to Immortalize Late Professor Mark Chijioke!
In a heartfelt tribute to the legacy of the late Professor Dr. Mark Chijioke, the former Head of the Department of Geo-Sciences and Emeritus Professor at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, the university is set to immortalize him by naming a building in his honour. The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, during a special Senate session dedicated to celebrating the life and contributions of the esteemed Professor of Physics.
Reverend Father Professor Anieke highlighted Professor Chijioke’s unwavering dedication to the university’s growth, emphasizing the positive impact he had on the students who were fortunate to be mentored by him. The Senate will soon decide which building will carry his name, ensuring his legacy endures at the institution he helped shape.
The Vice-Chancellor also praised Mrs. Allen Chijioke, the late Professor’s wife and the university’s first Librarian, for her unwavering support and dedication to her family. He encouraged their children to uphold the values of hard work and commitment exemplified by their parents.
During the session, Professor Chidi Uhuegbu, Dean of Natural Sciences and Environmental Studies, acknowledged Professor Chijioke’s meticulous work and care for his students. In his tribute, Professor Ndidi Ozofor described him as a distinguished and highly respected academic.
Responding on behalf of the family, Mrs. Allen Chijioke expressed gratitude, noting that her husband’s life was dedicated to the development of Nigeria through education, especially in the field of technical education.
The special Senate session witnessed overwhelming support from the university senators and members of Professor Chijioke’s family, who gathered to honour a life well-lived in service to education.
