Chief Vitalis Nnamdi Ozonweke did not fell from the blues to be considered worthy to be bestowed with Doctor of Business Management (honoris causa) of Godfrey Okoye University, recently.
The award, which took place at the convocation arena of the institution on the 25 February 2017, was the climax of the week long activities that marked the fourth convocation ceremony of the University, which was established by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu.
Obviously, Chief Ozonweke, the Managing Director of Andy Aluminium Industries, who is fondly referred to as ‘Andy Young’ by both foes and friends, to have qualified to be accorded the honour by a revered Catholic institution like Godfrey Okoye with core values on truth and honesty out of several hundreds of distinguished Nigerians, means that he has attained an enviable standard as an exceptional Christian living a Godly life and in his relationship with fellow human beings, especially among the down trodden in the society.
Notably, Chief Dr Ozonweke is known to have risen from the cradles to civilization and from grass to grace. Though, not known as one of the richest Nigerians, he feels satisfied with the grace of God that has continued to blossom in his life, family and business. In return, has decided to give back to the society from what has given him in several ways.
He is known to have engaged over 3000 Nigerians in his conglomerate of company’s and pays them accordingly on monthly basis. Chief Ozonweke has also transformed his community, Mgbagbu Owa in Ezeagu Local Government of Enugu State by providing electricity, construction of rural roads and providing tap water to his people as well as operating a scholarship scheme for indigent youths.
Chief Ozonweke, who is also known to have been extending his philanthropy to churches and other humanitarian organisations, told The AUTHORITY that the award will spur him to do more.
Among the special guests that witnessed the conferment of the Doctor of Business Management on Andy Young by the University include the Enugu State Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecelia Ezeilo, Speaker of State’s Assembly, Hon Edward Ubosi, Dr Festus Uzor, a Director in the National Population Commission, lawmakers, among others.
