The 2025 GOUNI Marathon kicked off at the Omininum Santrum Chaplaincy, Thinkers Corner, Enugu, bringing together over 200 determined participants ready to showcase their strength and passion for healthy living. The runners covered the route from Thinkers Corner to Ugwuomu. This is the 4th edition of the marathon chaired by Professor Modesta Egiyi, the University Bursar.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, commended Godfrey Okoye University for its commitment to engaging young people in meaningful and productive activities. He noted that this year’s theme, “Running for Active and Exciting Life,” is timely, as it highlights the importance of fitness and wellness beyond the idea of winning.
The Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Beloved Dan Anike, encouraged runners to embrace the marathon as an opportunity to pursue greatness both in sports and in life. He also gave ₦1,000,000 to the top ten runners in recognition of their outstanding performance.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Very Rev. Fr. Christian Anieke, explained that the marathon provides a platform for participants to showcase their abilities and position themselves for opportunities at national and international levels. He urged all runners to give their best while staying mindful of their physical limits.

Third Place: Onyia Chukwuebube — (₦100,000)
Women’s Category
First Place: Elias Jecinta — (₦500,000)
Second Place: Eze Miracle — (₦200,000)
Third Place: Eze Happiness — (₦100,000)
Consolation prizes of ₦10,000 were given to participants who finished between 4th and 20th place in both categories.
