The Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke has unveiled a new policy direction for the university, emphasizing a shift from seeking evidence to seeking smart solutions to societal problems.
He made this known while addressing staff and students at the 1st Common Midday Prayer for 2026, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena, Thinkers Corner Campus, Enugu. According to the Vice-Chancellor, the world has moved beyond certificates to problem-solving, and GOUNI is positioning its students to excel academically while developing real-life solution skills.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Anieke also promised improved staff welfare, enhanced campus infrastructure to aid student relocation, and announced that the DNA Learning Centre, the largest in Africa, will be commissioned this year to address paternity and forensic-related issues.
At the same event, the university approved the establishment of a Safeguarding Committee, in line with the directive of the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Callistus Onaga. Announcing this, the Director of Student Mentorship and Parent Relations, Lady Jane Ndukwe, stated that the committee will ensure a safe environment free from intimidation, abuse, or victimization. The committee’s first meeting is scheduled for 27 January 2026.
Also, during the Common Midday Mass, the student body read official announcements from the Office of the Director of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, unveiling two major competitions: the confirmation of Godfrey Okoye University as the Institutional Host Partner for the All Nigerian Youth Debate Championship (ANYDC) 2026, scheduled for the last weekend of March 2026, and the 2nd Edition of the Pen Gold Handwriting Competition for all 100-level students, with cash prizes of ₦50,000, ₦30,000, and ₦20,000, to be conducted during the Orientation Programme.
