Honouring the Legacy of the Late Professor Edwin Onyeneje!

We gathered at the Mission Field Town, Ebe, Enugu, to celebrate the life and legacy of our beloved Late Professor Edwin Onyeneje. A devoted member of the Governing Council and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of our esteemed university, Prof. Onyeneje was a true man of the people, deeply committed to the progress and well-being of his community.

In a heartfelt homily, Reverend Father Ambrose Ofordile, Chaplain of Holy Rosary College, fondly remembered Prof. Onyeneje as “Erienyibe,” a name he earned through his countless acts of charity and philanthropy. Father Ofordile urged us all to emulate Prof. Onyeneje’s life of sacrifice, noting his unwavering commitment to elevating the dignity of the human person and his active involvement in the cultural life of “Ndi Ebe.”

Our Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, described Prof. Onyeneje’s passing as a tremendous loss to academia and the Church. He expressed deep gratitude to the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Callistus Onaga, for allowing Prof. Onyeneje to receive a full sacrament—a testament to the bishop’s love for the Onyeneje family.

The event was graced by numerous dignitaries, including the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah (represented by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Emma Obi), the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Mr. Uchenna Ugwu, and our Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Christian Nwachukwu Okeke. We also had the honour of hosting principal officers and management team members of the university, alongside many other distinguished guests.

Mr. Hyginus Onyeneje, representing the family, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who traveled far and wide to be part of this solemn occasion.

May the soul of Prof. Edwin Onyeneje rest in perfect peace. 🙏
