The Institute of Care-Giving Education, Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, has announced a major upgrade to its curriculum to meet global standards in geriatric and paediatric care. This development follows the transformation of the former Centre for Nanny Education into a full-fledged institute designed to address the growing care needs of modern society.
Speaking during a Christmas party organised for students and staff, the Director of the Institute, Associate Professor Mrs. Blessing Udeh, explained that the revised curriculum aligns with the professional demands of the field and further strengthens the institute’s mission.
She noted that since its establishment in 2019, the institute has trained numerous Nigerians who are now providing care in hospitals, private homes, and elderly care facilities within and outside the country. She encouraged families, institutions, and health organisations seeking qualified caregivers to engage graduates of the institute for reliable and professional services.
Associate Professor Udeh also highlighted the institute’s community service efforts, which include traffic control support, fitness exercises, and health checks such as monitoring vital signs.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of the event, Barrister Mrs. Ngozi Akasike, expressed concern over the rise in sudden deaths resulting from inadequate care and poor health monitoring. As a qualified nurse, she advised the public to prioritise their health to reduce the growing pressure on hospitals and mortuaries.
Giving the vote of thanks, the year representative of the institute and staff of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Commander Ikechukwu Nwizu, appreciated the academic and administrative staff for their dedication. He assured that students of the Institute of Care-Giving Education would put their training into effective service for the benefit of humanity.
