Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, formally unveils to the world Very Rev. Msgr. Prof. Nicholas Ibeawuchi Omenka as Emeritus Professor of Godfrey Okoye University.


A priest of deep pastoral wisdom and a scholar of global renown, Prof. Omenka is a distinguished Professor of Church History whose academic formation and teaching career span Nigeria and Europe. Trained in Austria, France, and Germany, and decorated with a PhD in Church History (summa cum laude), his scholarship has made enduring contributions to African Church historiography and theological studies. His seminal work on Catholic education in Eastern Nigeria remains a reference point in international scholarship.


At Godfrey Okoye University, Prof. Omenka has served with distinction as Visiting Professor and Archivist, Full-Time Professor and Head of the Department of History and International Studies, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, bringing intellectual depth, academic rigour, and pastoral insight to the life of the University. His broader service as a department founder, prolific author, doctoral supervisor, editor, diocesan historian, and Church administrator reflects a lifetime of dedication to scholarship and service.
