A distinguished scholar, seasoned administrator, and global research leader, Prof. Onyia currently serves as the Director of the Inter-Disciplinary Research Directorate, where she continues to strengthen GOUNI’s research culture through innovation, collaboration, and impactful scholarship across faculties.
Prof. Onyia is a multi-disciplinary scientist with world-class academic training spanning Nigeria, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States. Her expertise covers biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, biosafety, bioethics, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development. She has anchored and managed several major national and international research projects, attracting competitive grants and partnerships that have advanced scientific capacity and policy development in Nigeria.
Beyond academia, she has rendered outstanding service at national and international levels, contributing to biosafety governance, environmental policy, food safety, renewable energy frameworks, and biodiversity conservation, while representing Nigeria in strategic scientific missions across multiple continents.
At Godfrey Okoye University, Prof. Onyia has made remarkable contributions as a teacher, mentor, researcher, and administrator. She has supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students, organized high-impact trainings and workshops, led academic departments, coordinated outreach initiatives, and provided exemplary leadership in advancing research excellence and quality assurance.
