CROWNED IN EXCELLENCE: DABERECHI NWOBODO SHINES BRIGHTEST IN 2ND MBBS EXAM AT GOUNI

In a moment that radiated brilliance, resilience, and academic excellence, Miss Happiness Daberechi Nwobodo has been crowned the best 300 level student of the College of Medicine, Godfrey Okoye University, Ugwuomu, Enugu.

The announcement came during a special Thanksgiving ceremony organized to celebrate the remarkable success of the medical students in their Second MBBS Examination, a milestone achievement for the college and the university at large.

Daberechi stood out among fifty-three other pioneering medical students after a rigorous Second MB Examination that tested not only academic depth but character and endurance. Following the successful outcome, 51 of the students are set to move to the university’s Teaching Hospital at Trans-Ekulu for their practical training, while three are to repeat the session.

Recognising her outstanding performance, the Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, announced a university award of N300,000 and a special Vice-Chancellor’s prize of N200,000 to Miss Nwobodo. He commended her commitment to excellence and encouraged other students to draw inspiration from her story.

Professor Anieke also expressed pride in the College’s achievements, saying it had set a benchmark for others to follow. “We have the best Accident and Emergency unit in our Teaching Hospital, the best in Enugu State,” he confidently declared, promising that the university would continue to provide top-tier training to ensure its medical graduates are second to none.

In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, the Vice-Chancellor named two new hostels after the Provost and Deputy Provost of the College. The Provost, Professor Frank Akpuaka, was deeply moved, acknowledging that of all the medical schools he had helped pioneer, Godfrey Okoye University was the first to publicly celebrate him and his team.

Professor Akpuaka highlighted Daberechi’s consistent excellence since the start of the programme, while the Deputy Provost, Professor Mrs. Miriam Unachukwu reflected on the honour of having a hostel named after her, even before her building project was completed. She urged the students to sustain their momentum and commended the serene learning environment of the main campus, which she believes has played a vital role in the students’ success.

In a heartfelt moment, Miss Nwobodo attributed her success to her faith in God, her unwavering commitment to her studies, and her belief in the power of prayer and service. She encouraged fellow students to prioritize spiritual grounding alongside academic pursuits.

The event was graced by all principal officers and several members of staff of the university, marking a significant milestone in the history of the College of Medicine.

This is not just a celebration of one student’s brilliance. It is a celebration of vision, leadership, faith, and the future of medicine nurtured within the halls of Godfrey Okoye University.
