
GOUNI HOSTS ENUGU CAMPUS HACKATHON INFO SESSION!
Godfrey Okoye University Enugu proudly hosted the Enugu Hackathon Information Session, the first of its kind in any university in the state! This ICT awareness campaign is part of a broader effort by the Enugu State Government to bridge the digital divide and empower young people through technology.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Segius Udeh, commended the government’s commitment to youth development through tech. He emphasized that “technology dictates the pace of the future” and charged GOUNI students to take full advantage of the opportunity and prove that the university’s massive investment in its new Faculty of Computing Sciences was well worth it.
Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, Director of Competitions at GOUNI, called for collaboration and preparation, noting that GOUNI is not only the first host but also one of just four universities selected for this prestigious Hackathon. She applauded the Enugu State Government for its forward-thinking ICT initiatives and thanked the partners; The Garage, Genesys Tech Hub, and the Enugu SME Center, for investing in the future of the youths through innovation and opportunity.
In response, Mr. Salem Emmanuel, Senior Programme Manager at Enugu SME, speaking on behalf of the Governor’s SA on Innovation, Prince Chilo-Offiah, described the Hackathon as “a revolution in bridging technological gaps.”
Representatives from the partner organizations, The Garage, Genesys Tech Hub, and the Enugu SME Center, moderated the session, guiding participants on how to apply for the Hackathon, how to pitch effectively, and strategies for winning. The information session officially marked the opening of entries into the Hackathon competition.
The vibrant event also featured interactive speeches, Q&A sessions on Hackathon and coding, and musical entertainment from the University’s Director of Music, Mr. Eric Mbaeze. Also present at the event was the Head of Department and Sub-Dean of Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, Dr Franklin Okebananma and lecturers of Computer Science.
