Godfrey Okoye VC to help shape Enugu’s care for the vulnerable as Board Co-Chair.
In a significant move to deepen social welfare and protection in Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah has inaugurated the Management Board for the Protection of State-owned Social Homes, with a distinguished array of individuals at the helm of affairs. Among them is Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, who now serves as Co-Chairman of the newly constituted board.
The inauguration, held at the Government House, Enugu, marked a renewed promise from the Mbah administration to leave no one behind in the pursuit of inclusive growth and shared prosperity. Speaking during the event, Governor Mbah emphasized that any society is only as strong as its weakest members, and therefore, deliberate attention must be paid to the vulnerable.
“We can not leave the vulnerable in our society out or behind. What we have pledged is an inclusive prosperity,” he said, noting that the caliber of professionals on the board gives him great confidence in the future of the state’s social care system.
Fr. Prof. Anieke, a revered educationist and clergyman, brings to the board his extensive leadership experience, moral vision, and deep-rooted commitment to human dignity. As Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, his work has long focused on transforming lives through education, values, and community engagement, a legacy he is now set to expand in this new social development capacity.
The First Lady of Enugu State, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, who also chairs the Board, called on members to work with fairness, transparency, and compassion, urging them to hit the ground running and prioritize the welfare of children and other vulnerable populations under the state’s care.
Other notable members of the Board include Rev. Canon Chibuike Okolo (Vice Chairman), Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, Rev. Sr. Mary Gloria Iloka, Rev. Sr. Veritas Onyemelukwe, Pastor Elias Anyigbo, Mrs. Anna Igbokwe, Barr. Chidinma Egeonu, and Barr. Uzoama Okeji, who will serve as Executive Secretary.
This is yet another milestone in the growing partnership between public institutions and moral leaders like Rev. Fr. Prof. Anieke, who continues to offer his voice, intellect, and heart in building a more just and compassionate society.
Congratulations, Prof!
