Where Compassion Meets Certification: GOUNI Graduates 35 Caregivers!

It was a moment of pride and purpose at Godfrey Okoye University Enugu as the Institute of Care-Giving Education marked its 6th Anniversary and 3rd Induction Ceremony, presenting certificates to 35 graduates and inducting 20 new caregivers into the Institute.

Held at the Justice Cordelia Chukwurah Convocation Arena, the event highlighted the quiet but profound power of caregiving as not just a profession but a calling. Associate Professor Mrs. Udeh, Director of Continuing Education and Coordinator of the Institute, emphasized the crucial role of caregivers in supporting individuals throughout life’s cycles, particularly during the most vulnerable moments, including the end of life. She emphasized that the Institute’s periodically reviewed curriculum continues to give graduates global relevance and opportunities abroad.

Speaking at the event, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih reminded the graduates that quality death is not just about the absence of pain but the presence of dignity and that caregivers play a vital role in making that possible. She described the programme as a forward-thinking initiative the state would be glad to support.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Dr. Sergius Udeh acknowledged the Institute’s consistent growth and the global achievements of its alumni across Europe, the USA, and beyond. He urged the graduates to remain proud ambassadors of the university.

Other dignitaries, including Professor Ikechukwu Ani and Dr. Alphonsus Nwafor lauded the graduates for their courage and compassion, noting that their training in caregiving, alongside language acquisition in German, Chinese, and French, equips them to thrive on a global stage.

In their response, the graduates pledged to uphold the values of the Institute and serve with empathy, skill, and dedication.
