Healing Begins with Compassion:
In a heartfelt call to duty, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Most Rev. Dr. Callistus Onaga has urged medical practitioners to treat patients with deep compassion, noting that healing often begins with the attitude of healthcare providers.
Speaking during the official inauguration of the Accident and Emergency Department of the Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital, Enugu, the Bishop reminded the staff that “God is the ultimate healer” and encouraged them to always begin each patient encounter with prayer.
The Bishop, who toured the hospital facilities, commended the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, for his vision, unwavering commitment, and the rapid transformation of the university and its medical arm. He charged both staff and students to stay focused on the noble dreams of the university’s founders.
In his remarks, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anieke shared the exciting news of the pioneer medical students’ excellent performance in their second MB examination, proof of the strong academic and moral foundation being laid at the university. He expressed confidence that the College of Medicine and Teaching Hospital will continue to produce top-tier medical professionals ready to thrive globally.
Prof. Amaechi Katchy, Chief Medical Director, led the Bishop and guests through the departments, reaffirming the hospital’s dedication to delivering outstanding training and healthcare services. He emphasized the management’s goal of positioning the hospital as one of the best referral centres in Nigeria.
