From Debate to Parade: Unity Week proves GOUNI is bursting with talent and spirit!
It was a moment of pride and celebration at the Thinkers Corner campuses of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, as the Faculty of Law emerged champions of the Faculty Debate Season 2, organised by the Directorate of Competitions as part of the ongoing Students Unity Week events.
The grand finale of the debate saw a thrilling intellectual showdown between the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Education, with Law clinching the top spot and taking home the star prize of ₦100,000. The Faculty of Education came second, earning ₦50,000, while the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences placed third, going home with ₦25,000.
Announcing the results, the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke commended all the teams for their impressive performances and recognized Tiffany Adibo (Faculty of Education) and Favour Egbogu (Faculty of Law) as the Best Speakers of the debate.
The Faculty of Law also claimed first place in the Inter-Faculty Quiz Competition. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Education won the Faculty Parade, showing creativity and unity in their presentation.
The Facullty Day of the Unity Week celebrations included more than just academic contests. Students also participated in a lively eating competition, and the Department of International Relations hosted a well-organized Parliamentary Sitting, where students simulated legislative processes among African countries.
A major highlight of the day was an inspiring speech by Mr. Gosife Eze, a proud alumnus of the university. He currently serves as the President of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) and is a member of the International Youth Advisory Body (IYAB) to the Vatican Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life. Drawing from his experience in national and global leadership, Mr. Gosife encouraged students to live purpose-driven lives and take their formation at GOUNI seriously as a foundation for future influence and impact.
The day’s activities began with a Holy Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, who reminded students that the true power of a Christian lies in action, not just words. He urged them to stay away from sin and be people whose goodness reflects God’s light. “It is better to be hated by the world but loved by God,” he said, calling on the students to use Unity Week as a time to let their virtues shine.
The event was graced by the university’s principal officers, deans, professors, directors, and heads of programmes, all gathered in solidarity with the students.
As the Unity Week continues, it is clear that Godfrey Okoye University is a community rooted in excellence, integrity, and growth. Congratulations to all the faculties for making it a day to remember.
