GODFREY OKOYE UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES BUSINESS CLINIC TO EMPOWER LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS

In a bold move to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and grassroots business needs, the Directorate of Entrepreneurship at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, has launched its Business Clinic, a practical training initiative aimed at strengthening micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises in the surrounding community.

The first phase of the training targeted business owners operating along the road by the university’s Thinkers Corner campus gate. The focus was clear: equip participants with real-world strategies for excellent customer service, how to engage customers respectfully, resolve issues efficiently, offer help sincerely, handle returns professionally, and ultimately deliver better products and services.

In his address, the Director of the Directorate, Mr. Christopher Uwakwe explained that this initiative ties directly into one of the university’s core mandates, community service and corporate social responsibility. According to him, the Business Clinic is about more than just training; it’s about listening to local entrepreneurs, understanding their struggles, and working together to find practical solutions.

Speaking on the theme of the training, “Onye Ahia Bu Eze Azumahia” (The Customer is King in Business), Mr. Uwakwe encouraged the business owners to adopt a more positive and respectful attitude towards their customers, noting that a shift in mindset is key to business success.

He also highlighted that the exercise is a tribute to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, in celebration of his Silver Jubilee as a Catholic priest. The gesture, he said, reflects the Vice-Chancellor’s long-standing commitment to community development and social impact.

During the training session, business consultant and trainer Miss Cynthia Chisom Okoli emphasized that better customer relationships translate to greater profits. She urged participants to rethink how they approach their daily transactions and strive for continuous improvement in their customer engagement.

This Business Clinic marks a new chapter in how Godfrey Okoye University connects with its environment not just as an academic institution but as a partner in community growth and economic development.
