
Godfrey Okoye University receives a world-class hostel from the Odengene Foundation.
A new chapter of growth and generosity unfolded at the Main Campus of Godfrey Okoye University, Ugwuomu Nike, as the Odengene Foundation officially handed over a newly constructed hostel to the university during the Silver Jubilee Anniversary of our Vice-Chancellor.
During the blessing and commissioning ceremony, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Callistus Onaga emphasized the importance of allowing oneself to be used for the good of others. He commended the vision behind the project and urged students to use the facility responsibly, encouraging all present to let the light of God in them shine through service.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Everest Nnaji, describing him as a man who inspires the younger generation through his acts of generosity and vision for education. He also highlighted the university’s commitment to ecological sustainability, pointing out that the campus is being developed without harming the natural environment.
Chief Everest Nnaji, benefactor and chairman of the Odengene Foundation, noted that he was inspired by the leadership of the Vice Chancellor to support the university. He reiterated his commitment to helping the less privileged, especially in covering hospital bills and offering other humanitarian assistance.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Sergius Udeh, described the hostel as a world-class structure built to meet the needs of the students. Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Rev. Sister Professor Sylvia Nwachukwu praised the building’s quality, calling it a beautiful and conducive space for both living and learning.
The University Bursar, Professor Modesta Egiyi, expressed profound appreciation to Chief Nnaji, confirming that the hostel was fully financed by the Odengene Foundation, with no financial input from the university.
Speaking on the academic impact, the Director of the Directorate of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu noted that the facility will not only provide a conducive environment but also play a key role in supporting students’ academic performance.
This hostel stands as a symbol of fruitful partnerships, visionary leadership, and the power of selfless giving.
