Godfrey Okoye University Enugu recently held its 15th Inaugural Lecture, featuring Reverend Father Professor Chigozie Nnebedum, a Professor of Empirical Sociology at Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria, and a faculty member in GOUNI\u2019s Department of Sociology-Psychology.<\/p>\n

Delivering a thought-provoking lecture titled \u201cWe Are All Foreigners\u201d: Addressing Xenophobic and Afrophobic Sentiments from the Perspective of Migration, Professor Nnebedum emphasized that migration issues should not be addressed in isolation. He highlighted key factors that can curb xenophobia and Afrophobia, including improved economic conditions, legal and social measures, diversity acceptance, anti-discriminatory laws, economic equality, and media representation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe concept that \u2018we are all foreigners\u2019 underscores the universality of human experience and our interconnected world,\u201d he noted, advocating for a global approach to migration that fosters equity, inclusion, and mutual respect.<\/p>\n

The Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, welcomed attendees and reiterated that inaugural lectures at GOUNI serve as a defence of professorship, emphasizing rigorous research and publication as a requirement. He described the lecture\u2019s theme as fascinating and relevant in today\u2019s world.<\/p>\n

The event, chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Sergius Udeh, was well attended by distinguished guests, including Emeritus Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Anthony Okonkwo Gbuji, top government officials, clergy, university principal officers, faculty, and family members of Professor Nnebedum.<\/p>\n
