Logic, Fire, and Fierce Competitions!<\/p>\n

Congratulations to the Faculty of Law, Education, and MSS for securing their spots in the Finals!<\/p>\n

The inter-faculty debate series at Godfrey Okoye University is reaching fever pitch, with riveting topics, powerful speeches, and a strong sense of intellectual camaraderie sweeping through campus.<\/p>\n

May 7<\/p>\n

Faculty of Management and Social Sciences (MSS) vs Faculty of Natural Sciences and Environmental Studies (NASES)<\/p>\n

Topic: Women make better political leaders than men.<\/p>\n

The Faculty of MSS scored a total of 1,096 points, defeating the Faculty of NASES, who scored 1,054.5 points.<\/p>\n

In attendance were:<\/p>\n

Dr. Mrs. Juliana Iwu-James, University Librarian, who represented the Vice-Chancellor and said she was thrilled at the level of intellectual discourse that went down.<\/p>\n

Prof. Modesta Egiyi, University Bursar, appreciated the students and the Directorate of Competitions and mentioned her willingness to assist with research.<\/p>\n

Assoc. Prof. John Odo, Dean of MSS, thanked the Directorate and encouraged the students.<\/p>\n

Miss Deborah Ogbonna, Vice President of COHON, urged students to continue the discussion beyond the debate hall.<\/p>\n

May 9<\/p>\n

College of Medicine vs. Faculty of Law<\/p>\n

Topic: Jungle justice is a symptom of a failed justice system.<\/p>\n

It was a firestorm of arguments and rebuttals. The Faculty of Law emerged victorious with a total of 1,259 points, while the College of Medicine scored 1,073 points.<\/p>\n

In attendance:<\/p>\n

Rev. Sister Prof. MarySylvia Nwachukwu, DVC Academics who represented the Vice-Chancellor, told the students she was not disappointed as she anticipated that this debate would be explosive\u2014and it was.<\/p>\n

May 10
\nFaculty of Education vs. Faculty of Arts
\nTopic: The immunity clause for governors and presidents should be abolished.<\/p>\n

The Faculty of Education clinched victory with 1,213 points, beating the Faculty of Arts, who scored 1,142 points.<\/p>\n

Present at the debate:<\/p>\n

Mrs. Peace Ike, Registrar, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, appreciated the students and the Director of Competitions for creating such meaningful platforms.<\/p>\n

Rev. Bro. Prof. Ekene Osuji, Dean of Faculty of Education, who shared debate tips and applauded the efforts of the students.<\/p>\n

The President of COHON, who appreciated all attendees and encouraged students to continue raising their voices on relevant societal issues.<\/p>\n

The Director of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, who read out the rules and judging criteria at each round, commended the faculty presidents for their cooperation and warmly welcomed new talents discovered through the debates. She reiterated that Godfrey Okoye University boasts one of the best debating teams in Nigeria, consistently competing at national and international levels.<\/p>\n

She expressed deep gratitude to the University Management and the Leadership of COHON for their unwavering support of this noble cause.<\/p>\n

The judges delivered sound judgments and offered insightful feedback to help participants improve.<\/p>\n

This series continues to elevate the standard of debate, critical thinking, and civic engagement among our students.<\/p>\n
