It was a day of deep reflection and sorrow as the Godfrey Okoye University community gathered to honour two of its own, Rev. Fr. Dr. Somadina Ibe-Ojuludu and Mr. Charles Aloh, in a solemn Holy Mass held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena, Thinkers Corner Campus 1.<\/p>\n
The late Rev. Fr. Dr. Somadina Ibe-Ojuludu, a Capuchin priest and esteemed lecturer in the Faculty of Law, was remembered as a resilient, intuitive, and determined scholar who, though not given to crowds, left an indelible mark in the hearts of those he taught and worked with.<\/p>\n
The Holy Mass began after a touching one-kilometre procession by students and staff of the Faculty of Law, all dressed in black, from their faculty building at Campus 2 to the convocation arena. Led in hymns by Sister Vivian Onwuka, the atmosphere was filled with solemnity and mourning.<\/p>\n
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Uchenna Ezeihejeafor of the Capuchin Order, Enugu, spoke glowingly of Fr. Somadina\u2019s life, describing him as a priest who exemplified the harmony between secular and religious duties. A civil lawyer with a passion for nurturing future legal luminaries, Fr. Somadina was celebrated for his commitment to both faith and intellect.<\/p>\n
Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, Vice Chancellor of the university, led over 20 priests in the celebration of the Mass and paid glowing tributes to both Fr. Somadina and Mr. Charles Aloh, who served in the Human Resources Unit. Describing them as peaceful and dedicated staff, the Vice Chancellor noted that their deaths were shocking, not only to the university but to the Capuchin and Ngwo communities as well.<\/p>\n
In an emotional tribute, Rev. Fr. Anthony Udemba of the Capuchin Order called Fr. Somadina a straightforward and good brother, while Associate Prof. Friday Iloh, Dean of the Faculty of Law, hailed him as a profound academic and expert in jurisprudence.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Peace Ike, Acting Registrar of the university, spoke of Mr. Charles Aloh\u2019s humble and peaceful nature, having served in several departments with unwavering dedication.<\/p>\n
On behalf of the Student Council of Honour in the Faculty of Law, Sister Vivian Onwuka gave a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on the deep sense of loss felt by the student body.<\/p>\n
Though gone, their legacies remain woven into the fabric of Godfrey Okoye University , a testament to lives lived in service, faith, and scholarship.<\/p>\n
\u201cDeath is not the end, but a gateway to eternal union with Christ,\u201d Fr. Prof. Anieke reminded the congregation.<\/p>\n
May their souls rest in perfect peace.<\/p>\n
