At a time when society is yearning for a revival of values, Godfrey Okoye University Enugu has once again taken the lead. The university played host to an international conference on Sustaining Social Values through Apprenticeship and Mentoring Dynamics, a gathering that brought together social science teachers from across Nigeria to rethink how we groom our youth.<\/p>\n

Declaring the conference open at the Dr. Peter Mbah Law Auditorium, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Sister Professor Mary-Sylvia Nwachukwu, representing the Vice-Chancellor, challenged educators to mentor students in a way that promotes justice, spirituality, diligence, dialogue, and strong interpersonal communication.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are the belief principles that guide how we behave and interact in society?\u201d she asked, stirring reflections in a room filled with minds passionate about social transformation.<\/p>\n

She praised the Faculty Dean, Brother Professor Ekene Osuji, whose keynote paper underscored the importance of social values like honesty, empathy, respect, and service, describing them as the ethical compass that sustains any community. He warned that poor human relationships remain at the root of societal problems.<\/p>\n

Adding his voice, the President of the Social Science Teachers Association of Nigeria, Professor Friday Onwe, emphasized the need to reintroduce young people to the paths of apprenticeship and mentorship noting that entrepreneurship thrives when rooted in guided experience, especially through General Studies programs.<\/p>\n

In a world fast losing its grip on value-based living, this conference was more than a gathering it was a wake-up call.<\/p>\n

The conference was attended by social science teachers from different tertiary institutions in Nigeria, alongside principal officers of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, further reinforcing the university\u2019s growing reputation as a hub for academic engagement and societal transformation.<\/p>\n
