The 2025 edition of the Students\u2019 Unity Week at Godfrey Okoye University came to a colourful and spirited close with a Holy Mass celebrated on Holy Trinity Sunday at the university’s Thinkers Corner campus.<\/p>\n

In his homily, the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, reflected on the importance of unity in diversity, an ideal deeply rooted in the philosophy of the university. He called on Nigerians to not only work towards national unity but also to respect the cultures of all ethnic groups. “Nigeria is not just Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba,” he reminded the congregation. \u201cEvery tribe deserves honour and recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"He also encouraged Christians to use the occasion of Holy Trinity Sunday to reflect on the value of family, love, and togetherness.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the campus had been alive with excitement as students marked the sports day of the Unity Week with thrilling football matches. The Faculty of Law dominated the pitch in both the male and female categories:<\/p>\n

Male Match: Faculty of Law defeated the School of Nursing 3\u20131, clinching the champions\u2019 trophy and a cash prize of \u20a6100,000.<\/p>\n

Female Match: Faculty of Law edged past the Faculty of Education 1\u20130, securing the female trophy and a \u20a650,000 prize.<\/p>\n

Runners-up also received recognition:<\/p>\n

School of Nursing (Male): \u20a650,000<\/p>\n

Faculty of Education (Female): \u20a625,000<\/p>\n

Individual excellence was rewarded too:<\/p>\n

Best Male Player: \u20a625,000<\/p>\n

Best Female Player: \u20a610,000<\/p>\n

Star striker Ogbodo Miracle, who scored the decisive goal in the female finals, expressed her excitement and gratitude to her team for their dedication and support throughout the competition.<\/p>\n

The week also featured various other sporting activities, casual games, music, and dancing, offering students a chance to relax, bond, and celebrate the unique cultures that make up the GOUNI family.<\/p>\n
