Nine outstanding students of Godfrey Okoye University Secondary School, Enugu, have been honoured with scholarships for their exceptional academic performance in the 2024–2025 academic session.
The scholarships were presented by the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, during the induction ceremony of 208 new students of the school.
Speaking at the event, Reverend Father Anieke, who is also the Director of the Group of Institutions, urged Nigerians to remain humble, reminding them that every gift, whether of intelligence or wealth, comes from God. He encouraged parents to guide their children in prayer and advised students to show compassion and care for one another, even in the absence of their teachers.
Commending the school’s impressive record, the Vice-Chancellor described its performance as “a true reflection of both spiritual and academic excellence.”
In his remarks, the Principal of the School, Reverend Father Henry Amuji, explained that the scholarship recipients were drawn from Junior Secondary Three and Senior Secondary classes one to three. He added that four students were recognized as best behaved, while three others emerged overall best in the bronze, silver, and gold categories of the school’s academic assessment.
Reverend Father Amuji also revealed that out of 51 students who sat for the JAMB examination, 15 scored 280 and above, while the school achieved 95 percent success in the 2025 WAEC and NECO examinations.
Additionally, 19 members of the teaching and administrative staff were honoured for outstanding performance, as the Principal reiterated the school’s commitment to collaboration among parents, teachers, and students.
Established over thirty years ago, Godfrey Okoye University Secondary School continues to nurture students who go on to excel in diverse fields across the nation and beyond.
The induction ceremony, which also marked the start of the mid-term break, was graced by parents, staff, and friends of the institution.
