The Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, has urged the graduating Class of 2026 of Godfrey Okoye University Secondary School to make wise decisions about their future by choosing institutions that will sustain and build on the solid foundation they have received.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke gave the advice during the Valedictory Ceremony for the graduating students held at the Justice Cordelia Chukwura Convocation Arena, Thinkers Corner, Enugu.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the Administrator, Principal, and members of staff of the secondary school for their dedication in nurturing the students academically, morally, and spiritually. He encouraged the graduates to continue their educational journey at Godfrey Okoye University, describing it as an institution where they would continue the narrative of success already established in their secondary education.
According to him, Godfrey Okoye University offers a wide range of courses, all of which are approved and accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). He noted that the university is ranked among the ten best universities in Nigeria and remains the leading private university east of the Niger. He further stated that the institution is committed to producing graduates who are employable, morally upright, and spiritually grounded, stressing that academic excellence, discipline, and sound values remain its watchwords.
As part of the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor presented cash awards to outstanding students. Kingsley Edeh and Cecilia Nworie received 120,000 Naira each for the Best in Character award. Okoye Favour won 150,000 Naira as the Best Science Student, while Egiyi Otitochukwu received 150,000 Naira as the Best Arts Student. Egiyi Otitochukwu, who emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student, was also awarded 300,000 Naira and a 50 percent scholarship to study at Godfrey Okoye University.
The Administrator of Godfrey Okoye University Secondary School, Rev. Fr. Anthony Chukwu, commended the Vice-Chancellor and principal officers of the university for their support while eulogizing the commitment and dedication of the school management team and staff.
In her address, the Principal, Rev. Sr. Chibuzor Iloh, expressed appreciation to Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke as well as the management and staff for their unwavering support. She described the six-year journey of the graduating students as one marked by both challenges and memorable achievements, noting that the school has remained committed to nurturing intellectual excellence and sound character. She urged the graduates to live purposeful lives guided by courage and integrity, while also appreciating parents for entrusting the school with their children.
Speaking on behalf of the parents, His Royal Highness Igwe Marius Ahamu commended the secondary school for its discipline, commitment to academic excellence, and zero tolerance for malpractice. Additionally, the Bursar of the university, Prof. Mrs. Modesta Egiyi, encouraged the students to remain dedicated and committed to their studies to achieve outstanding performance. In her valedictory address, Miss Otitochukwu Egiyi expressed deep gratitude to God, her parents, and her colleagues for their support.
The climax of the event featured award presentations, the unveiling of the 2026 yearbook and project, cake cutting, cultural dance performances, and group photographs.
