Revolutionizing the Virtual Classroom: Highlights from the Digital Teaching Workshop

Teaching in the digital age is about far more than just logging into a platform; it requires intentional pedagogy and a deep understanding of how students learn in virtual spaces. This was the core message at the Digital Teaching Workshop hosted by the School of Postgraduate Studies at Godfrey Okoye University.

The event brought together lecturers from across all disciplines to sharpen their digital practices and respond to the evolving demands of modern higher education.

Theory Meets Practice

The workshop kicked off with Dr. Natalie Glynn-Wix, who drew on fifteen years of international experience across the U.S., Ireland, and Germany. She provided a robust theoretical foundation for student engagement, challenging our faculty to rethink how they structure feedback and consolidation in blended environments.

Translating that theory into action, Rev. Br. Prof. Osuji G. Ekene, Dean of the Faculty of Education, led a high-energy, hands-on session. His presentation focused on the immediate application of digital tools, proving that technology, when used with intent, significantly improves learning outcomes.

Driving Reform Across Africa

Beyond the classroom level, Prof. Lilian-Rita Akudolu addressed the broader landscape of academic reform. Her session on the “Tuning” methodology highlighted the African Union’s strategy for harmonizing higher education. It was a vital reminder of our role in competence-driven education and academic mobility across the continent.

A Commitment to Excellence

This successful initiative was made possible through the leadership of our Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, and the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies and DVC Administration, Prof.  Sergius Udeh. Their support continues to drive Godfrey Okoye University’s reputation for innovation and academic excellence.

Our lecturers have emerged from this workshop with renewed perspectives and practical strategies to ensure our students receive a world-class digital education.
