The celebration of unity, culture, and creative genius reached its peak on Day 2 of the 2026 Unity Week at Godfrey Okoye University as the institution crowned its new pageantry icons. Mark Okoye David, a 100-level Accounting student, and Nwokoro Emmanuella, a 100-level Biochemistry student, emerged as winners in the male and female categories, respectively.

Addressing the university community at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena at Thinkers Corner, Enugu, the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke explained that Unity Week is deeply rooted in the university’s core philosophy of the unity of knowledge. He stressed that the events are designed to go beyond mere entertainment, serving instead as a vital platform for reconciliation and genuine social integration among the student body. Putting his words into action, the Vice Chancellor gifted four students cash rewards of 5,000 naira each to reward specific reconciliatory gestures observed during the week.

The day also witnessed an extraordinary celebration of talent when a student, Anyim Emmanuel, was awarded a full tuition scholarship by the Vice Chancellor for composing a creative rap song that promotes the identity and culture of the university. This added to his growing list of victories, as Anyim Emmanuel had previously won the Rap Battle during the Faculty Day Competition by perfectly delivering lyrics that aligned with the central theme of the competition An alumnus of the institution, Mr. Emmanuel Okoh (Okwulora) further supported the talented student with a cash prize of 100,000 naira.

In another twist of fate, Egbogu Favour Ogechukwu won a 10 per cent tuition scholarship from the Door Step trade fair raffle draw. With Emmanuel Okoh adding 100,000 naira and the CEO of Tribu Hotels (Chief Silas Nnamdi Ozor) adding another 100,000 naira in recognition of her NUC Debate Championship win, her day became exceptionally rewarding.

In a remarkable show of generosity toward the pageantry contestants, the Vice Chancellor announced that every single participant would receive 50,000 naira and a solar-powered standing fan, while the two crown winners received 200,000 naira each. The President of the Students Council of Honour, Miss Emma Nwachukwu, was also honoured with a solar fan in recognition of her exceptional coordination of the Unity Week festivities.

Mr. Emmanuel Okoh added flavour to the day’s event by boosting each pageantry contestant with an additional 100,000 naira. Demonstrating his love for local sports and community spirit, the proud alumnus also rewarded six students who wore Enugu Rangers jerseys with a combined sum of 300 dollars.

Concluding the events, the Vice Chancellor commended the entire student body for their vibrant participation and urged the university community to continually sustain the beautiful spirit of harmony that the week embodies.
