“Rules and regulations are not meant to punish; they are in place to create a more organized and better society.”

This was the central message delivered by the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, as he addressed newly admitted students on the final day of the three-day orientation programme held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena, Thinkers’ Corner Campus, Enugu.

Speaking to the fresh students, the Vice-Chancellor outlined the academic, moral, and spiritual expectations of the university. He noted that the institution’s rules and regulations have been clearly communicated through various sessions led by the management team and emphasized that adherence to these guidelines is essential for personal growth and community development.

Rev. Fr. Prof. Anieke described admission into Godfrey Okoye University as a prestigious achievement, highlighting the institution’s national and international recognition for its pioneering and groundbreaking contributions. He stated that the university has championed innovation and creativity in over 30 areas of human endeavour and encouraged students to embrace the university’s vision by engaging in epistemological, cultural, and religious dialogue.

Also speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Rev. Sis. Prof. Mary Sylvia Nwachukwu reminded students that the university’s core values are dialogue, hard work, and spirituality. She urged them to adhere strictly to the dress code and the provisions of the student handbook, warning against social and examination misconduct that could attract penalties such as suspension or expulsion.

The Chief Security Officer, Mr. Dike Ugorji stressed the importance of maintaining a safe and conducive environment for both staff and students. He encouraged students to obey institutional rules and promptly report any suspicious activities, reiterating the university’s zero tolerance for cultism and any form of malpractice.

The Director of Sports, Mr. Ekene also addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of regular exercise and active participation in sports. He noted that balancing academics with recreational activities is essential, as all work without play can make education monotonous.

The orientation programme concluded with a renewed call for students to embrace discipline, excellence, and the values that define Godfrey Okoye University.
