During a recent news briefing in Enugu, the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, emphasized the critical role of research in university education. He highlighted that the university’s dedication to research, learning, and teaching has not only strengthened the institution but also positioned it among the best universities worldwide.

“Chidiebere Uwakwe has been pushing research in this area, and the efforts are paying off as Leuphana University Germany has provided this grant for training in African countries. The key focus will be on training students and staff in entrepreneurship,” stated Prof Anieke.

In addition to entrepreneurship, Godfrey Okoye University is also making strides in other areas such as Biotechnology. The university is collaborating with the Enugu State Government on forensic technology initiatives. Prof Anieke mentioned, “Very soon, it will be very difficult to carry out a criminal act in Enugu State and get away with it, as the criminal will be identified through forensic analysis by the DNA Centre located at our main campus in Ugwuomu.

”The state government has recognized the university’s capabilities in forensic technology, leading to a partnership on this project. Prof Anieke confidently projected that “the university will be number one in research in Africa in the next five years.”

The Vice-Chancellor also stressed the importance of quality teaching, noting that the university monitors lecturers to ensure they deliver the benefits of research in the classroom. Missing lectures is considered a serious offence at GOUNI.

Community service is another area where the university excels, particularly through the activities of the Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital in Enugu. The robust research programs at the university have significantly impacted its landscape, enabling graduates to secure employment or create jobs upon completion of their studies.

Godfrey Okoye University continues to lead by example, demonstrating the profound impact of dedicated research, innovative teaching, and committed community service. Stay tuned for more updates on our journey to becoming the top research university in Africa.
